DJI Releases the Action 2 Camera, the 2nd of 3 Promised Product Launches
BY Zacc Dukowitz
27 October 2021Today DJI released the Action 2 camera, a small, rugged camera with a magnetized mounting system.
The Action 2 is the second generation of DJI’s Osmo Action, which was released back in 2019. The new version drops Osmo from the name, and it’s been completely redesigned to make it more versatile and useful for a variety of types of videography.
Watch this video to learn more, and keep reading for all the specs and features you’ll get with the Action 2.

Versatility Is a Focal Point for the Action
When you compare the Action 2 to one of its most obvious competitors, the GoPro Hero, the specs aren’t that impressive.
While the latest iteration of the Hero, the Hero 10 Black, can shoot 5.3K video at 60fps and 2.7K at 240 fps, the Action 2 shoots 4K video at 120 fps and only does slow-mo at 1080p/120fps.
But what makes the Action 2 stand out isn’t necessarily the specs. It’s the design.
The Action 2 was made with versatility in mind, allowing you to do things like:
- Turn it on and start recording with one button (using a feature called SnapShot)
- Record up to 160 minutes of footage straight
- Use a separate battery module to extend the camera’s battery life from 70 minutes to three hours (the battery module also comes with an extra microSD slot)
- Attach the camera to a headband
The camera is also waterproof to about 30 feet of depth, and comes with an extra color temperature sensor to help it capture accurate color tones underwater and in other low light scenarios.

Magnets are also a big part of the Action 2’s versatility, and a big design feature that makes the Action 2 stand out when compared to the GoPro Hero series.
Using magnets, you can configure the Action 2 in several different ways, snapping accessories on and off as needed—something the Hero cameras can’t do.
With magnets, you can:
- Add a secondary screen (this also boosts battery life and adds three microphones)
- Configure the camera so you can wear it around your neck
- Add a mount that lets you attach the camera to a tripod
- Add a mount that lets you attach the camera to a GoPro mount

The third product will be launched next Friday, November 7.
Industry rumors predicted that the three products DJI was launching would be a new Ronin, a new Action camera, and a new Mavic—the Mavic 3.
So far, those predictions have been spot on, with more and more images and information continuing to be leaked about the forthcoming Mavic.
Next Friday is certainly shaping up to be an exciting day for everyone who has waited for years to see a new version of one of DJI’s most popular drones.
