Drone Footage of Largest Ichthyosaur—or “Sea Dragon”—Fossil Ever Found in the United Kingdom
Scientists recently found the 180-million-year-old fossil of an ichthyosaur, commonly called a sea dragon, at a water reserve in Rutland, England. At 32 feet long with a 6-foot skull, the skeleton is the largest and most complete that has ever been found of a sea dragon in the U.K—and it also just looks really cool. Check out the drone footage in the video above to get a sense for just how massive this ancient creature was.

Super Long Single-Shot FPV Drone Video Takes Us on a Tour of a Swiss School
OK, so we’re not sure if this single-shot FPV drone video shot at a school in St.Gallen, Switzerland is actually the longest ever made, but it is really impressive nonetheless. As we’ve come to expect from these cinewhoop-style videos, we get a full tour of the school’s ground and buildings in the video, swooping through trees and in and out of classrooms. With tricky flying through tight spaces, a heady quick rise through an inner atrium, and a clever end, the video is well worth watching all the way through.

Drone Captures Shark Feeding Frenzy
This drone video shot off the coast of Southampton, New York shows us the path that blacktip sharks make as they swim through a massive school of menhaden fish, eating as they go. These sharks are typically seen much farther south, in the Caribbean. Regarding the presence of these sharks so far north, Chris Paparo, the wildlife videographer who made the video, said in an interview on CBS News that “climate change is definitely playing a role [in driving these sharks north] . . . especially in the sightings we’re seeing this year and last year. As sea temperatures are rising due to climate change, a lot of fish populations are shifting north.”

New Video from Autel Showcases Nest for the EVO Drone
Drone nests seem to be the latest thing, but we usually only see them offered for higher-end professional drones. Not so any more. In this video, Autel unveils its new nest for the EVO drone, which is for charging, networking, storing, and commanding the drone. The nest comes with a retractable canopy, a glass-fiber charging board, and a built-in air conditioning system. Watch the video to see it in action.

Winners of the 2021 Women to Watch Global Awards
Women and Drones has announced the honorees for its fifth annual Women to Watch awards, a program that recognizes women who are making a positive difference in the drone industry throughout the world. This year, nominations were made for women in eight different countries. Here are the individual winners:
- Bronwyn Morgan, Xeo Air—Recipient of the Iris Automation Entrepreneurship Award. Bronwyn Morgan is a Part 107 certified pilot, FAA Safety Representative and FAA Drone Pro, and is the Founder of Xeo Air, an AI based drones on demand, data analytics and autonomy platform for mission management that connects clients in telecom, catastrophic response, oil and gas, energy, construction, civil infrastructure.
- Madison Jeffery, Swoop Aero—Recipient of the Skydio Public Safety/Service Award. Madison Jeffery of Australia is based in Southern Malawi, where she manages Swoop Aero’s flagship medical drone logistics network, which connects over 1.5 million people with essential medical supplies.
- Karen DiMeo, AERODiMEO LLC—Recipient of the Sabrewing Aircraft Leadership Award. As CEO, Karen DiMeo advises her clients on issues related to unmanned and advanced emerging technologies in the commercial aerospace ecosystem. Karen has 30 years of experience in the aviation industry from both government and industry leadership positions.
- April Lanotte, STEM lead for NASA’s Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate—Recipient of the Unmanned Safety Institute Education Award. In her current position with NASA, April Lanotte works on making aerospace science more accessible to all teachers and students and works with engineers and subject matter experts on ways to add more STEM opportunities into their missions.
