Italy by Drone with the New DJI Mini 3
This video shot by YouTube creator Denis Barbas was shot on the Mini 3 in places that are a little off the beaten track in Italy. According to Barbas, “When you think of Italy, usually these are not the places that first come to your mind.” But the shots in the video are stunning, including old sea ports, abandoned villages, and ancient ghost towns. DJI Avata Christmas Lights Video
This video shot on the DJI Avata takes you on a tour through holiday lights set up along two neighboring sidewalks so that you feel like you’re walking through a tunnel of lights. The video starts above the houses, zooming down to street level and flying along through the embowered lights. If you’re in the mood for something light and fun this winter season, then this video may be just the thing.

The Top Drone Manufacturers of 2022

Wondering what the best drone manufacturing companies of 2022 are? According to Drone Industry Insights (DroneII), they’re DJI, Parrot, Skydio, XAG, and JOUAV. These companies were selected based on DroneII’s unique company ranking model, not on market share. As you can see in the infographic above, DJI is way out in front of the pack, per usual. If you look at the ranking column to the right, you’ll notice that the four companies that come after DJI are all in fairly similar positions, with only small differences putting one in front of the other. We see that the U.S. has a stronger showing when we look at dual-use drone manufacturers (drones made for both defense and commercial applications), with the top three spots going to companies based in America. The Biggest Drone Launches of 2022

2022 was a huge year for drone launches. This year we saw the launch of the Skydio 2+, Flyability’s Elios 3, and Teledyne FLIR’s SIRAS, a U.S.-made drone that has the potential to go head-to-head with the DJI Matrice 300 (and costs less). We also saw DJI launch six different drones, including the Avata, the Matrice 30, and three series drones (these are souped up or toned down versions of a drone in a series, like the Mavic 3 Enterprise or the Mini SE). In addition to all the drones released this year, we also saw Teal Drones launch 4 Ship, the first ever drone swarm made available for consumer purchase. Women and Drones Names First Ever Hall of Fame Inductees
Women and Drones has been recognizing women leaders in the drone industry for five years now through its annual Women to Watch awards, and now the organization has launched a hall of fame. Called the Hall of Fame for Women in Emerging Aviation Technologies, the new honor was made to recognize “highly experienced and accomplished businesswomen in the industry.” 12 women were given the honor of being inducted into the new Women and Drones hall of fame this year, including Sally French, founder of the Drone Girl; Miriam McNab, Editor of DroneLife; and Sabrina Saunders-Hodge, Director of the Research, Engineering and Analysis Division in the FAA’s UAS Integration Office.
